snow days

we lucked out at Meredith College today, waking up to a beautiful coat of snow all over the campus--and the snow is still falling! so, because class was canceled--since we live in the land where little snow storm is equal to a blizzard--i got to sleep in and then wake up to a beautiful blanket of snow, which was still being fluffed, all over our campus. i'm really glad i moved my bed next to the window this year, because i'm sitting right now with the blinds open watching huge snowflakes continue to fall to the ground. it's just a gorgeous sight, and another reason why i can't wait to move to colorado. although, i do feel like once i move to colorado the snow will lose a bit of the novelty. nc has been long overdue for a good snow--we got one freshman year but it wasn't much, and before that i don't even remember a snow as beautiful as this! My camera doesn't quite do the snow justice--and it's really tough to take pictures in the snow, anyway--but here's a few pictures i snapped from my residence hall. Now i just wish i had the guts to pull my window open and get a snapshot of the view i have from my bed right now. it's perfect!

on another note, this is quite a historical day to be snowed in because i'm able to watch the inauguration of our country's 44th president. President Barack Obama just walked out on the platform at the inauguration and when the announcers called his name, i completely got chills. now i'm a pretty moderate person as far as my political beliefs go, and i certainly wasn't sold out for barack obama like some people were, but i'm greatly anticipating all that this man will do for our country. we're so fortunate to live safely where we do--where political power can be shifted so peacefully, so in my opinion it is our duty to support Barack Obama as the president of our nation.

"My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free, thy name I love;
I love they rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with ranture thrills, like that above."
